About  TSPE - Professional Registration

Benefits of Becoming a P.E.

Why Are There Over 12,000 Engineers
Registered in the State of Tennessee?

 PE Registration:
The Smartest Choice

  • Job Opportunities – Employers want engineers who show a commitment to the future by becoming registered. Many engineering jobs require PE status.
  • Promotions – Look around - a majority of senior engineering positions are occupied by PEs. An increasing number of companies are requiring registration for advancement.
  • Consulting – Only PEs can consult in private practice and serve as expert witness in court.
  • Respect – PEs gain the respect of peers within the engineering community. Registered engineers also enhance their employers reputation.
  • Professionalism – Registration by a majority of engineers is essential if you are to enjoy the benefits of established professions such as medicine and law.
  • It's the Law – This is probably the most important reason. Tennessee State law reserves use of the word "engineer" for licensed professional engineers.

Why Now?

Simple, it's easier!
You should begin the registration process while the coursework is still fresh in your mind.

What is Required?

Please see the Tennessee Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners home page for current registration requirements.

Ordering a PE Stamp or Embosser

Upon passing the PE examination, new registrants are assigned a registration number and are given a license to practice engineering in the state of Tennessee. One of the first needs for a newly licensed Professional Engineer is to acquire a Professional Engineer stamp and/or embosser.

TSPE will assist newly licensed engineers by having your name and registration number imprinted on a rubber seal stamp or on a pocket seal embosser for a nominal charge. The stamp and embosser may be purchased by filling out and returning the PE Stamp and Embosser Order Form.
